Working Memory Test 3.4

The Working Memory Test application presents users with nine squares randomly arranged on the device screen, each containing a unique number from 1 to 9. The design ensures that all numbers are used exactly once. Users are prompted to memorize the positions of these numbers.

To initiate the test, tap on square 1. At this point, all other squares are cleared. The user is then tasked with tapping the remaining squares in ascending order based on their memory of the original layout. As each square is selected in sequence, the contained number is revealed to verify correctness.

If the user successfully taps all nine squares in the correct order, the application displays the total time taken to memorize and recall the sequence. An incorrect selection terminates the current attempt, allowing for a restart or a new game session.

For context, one can observe a chimpanzee in Professor Tetsuo Matsuzawa's laboratory at the Kyoto Primate Research Institute (Japan) demonstrate remarkable memory skills by memorizing nine numbers in just 0.65 seconds, a feat documented on YouTube by searching "ESL Chimp's Memory." While human performance may not match this speed, it provides an intriguing benchmark for cognitive capacity.

This app was developed entirely in the UK utilizing Apple’s latest Swift 5 programming language, ensuring high standards of security, simplicity, and efficiency. Development employed only official Xcode tools directly obtained from Apple, alongside standard development environments and test devices.
